You and Your Child Can Be on TV!

Programs

Would your child like to be included on the morning announcements at school? You can make that happen! Volunteer to be a Watch DOG and you and your child will be featured on closed circuit TV system used at the school for morning announcements.  Not only is this a positive experience for your child, but also allows all children at school to know who the Watch DOG for the day is and recognize you as a helper in the halls and classrooms. Rest assured you and your child will hear, “I saw you on the announcements today!”

Our students enjoy the Watch DOG program and it provides a fantastic way to include YOU in their daily activities here at GES.  The purpose of Watch DOGS is very simple – For YOU to serve as a positive male role model for all of our students, and, to provide an adult male volunteer every school day possible.

Suggested Schedule for GES WATCH DOGS

7:10-7:15   Sign in at the office.  Pickup your Watch DOG sticker or shirt.

7:15            Go to the library – see Ms. Coward or Ms. Hobbs and have your picture taken with your child.  Your child will then go to his/her classroom.

7:20-7:35   Assist with student arrival in the car lane.

7:35             Get your child from his/her classroom and go to the library.  One of the librarians will take you to the room where the announcements are broadcasted.

7:40-7:50    Participate in the announcements with your child.  You will be introduced as the Watch DOG for the day (Big Smile, Wave) !!!  After – child back to class.

7:55-8:30    Collect recycling (Mr. Cain is your contact).  Teachers are advised to place their recycling containers in the hallways for collection.  If no recycling, check in the office to see if any help is needed anywhere else.

8:30-8:45     From outside, walk around the school and check all building doors; ensure they are closed and locked.  Make note of any that are not secured and inform the office staff.  While outside, look for anything that’s broken and/or that may present a hazard to the safety of the children (broken playground equipment, broken fencing, glass, etc).  Pick up any visible trash.

8:45-9:00      Break.

9:00-9:45      Volunteer in the Library, Art Room, Music Room, or PE.

9:45-10:30    Volunteer in your child’s class.

10:30-12:45   Lunch and recess interaction – you should definitely eat lunch with your child (children) when they are there, and help pass out straws, napkins, plastic utensils, and help open containers in the cafeteria when not eating with your child.

1:00-1:40      Volunteer for Art, Music or PE.  Or feel free to go back to your child’s classroom.

1:40-1:55       Break

1:55-2:10       Report to the office to prepare for school dismissal.  Assist with student dismissal outside in the car line, or in the hallway, gym, bus pickup and/or door monitoring (as requested by school staff).

2:10 – 2:20       Report to the library and complete the short Watch DOG survey, then sign out in the office.  Don’t forget to take your Watch DOG shirt home and launder it.  Please have your child return it to the office as soon as possible for other Watch DOGS to use.  AND LAST – BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY – THANKS !!!!

You can register for the GES Watch DOG Program online and select the day/date of your choice. The program will send you a reminder, as well as allow you to change your volunteer date if necessary.  Normally, only one Watch DOG is necessary per school day, but occasionally, two or more men may sign up for the same date due to a birthday or some other special reason – no problem, sometimes, more is better!  A forty-eight (48) hour minimum notice is required if you’re going to volunteer.  A BIGGY –  All volunteers MUST have a CURRENT (School Year 2017-2018) HCPS Volunteer/Mentor form on file at GES.  Start looking at your calendar for possible volunteer/sign-up dates.
